Lauryl chloride is a particle that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to be effective against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Lauryl chloride binds to fatty acids in the cell membrane and forms a chemical reaction with them. This reaction causes an increase in the redox potential of the cell membrane, which can lead to leakage of cellular contents. Lauryl chloride has been found to be ineffective against some strains of bacteria that produce human serum albumin (HSA), such as those resistant to p-hydroxybenzoic acid and methicillin
Lauryl chloride has also been shown to have cationic surfactant properties and may be used for the treatment of infectious diseases due to its high resistance.
