Product Information
Leukotriene A4 methyl ester (LTA4ME) is a synthetic drug that is used as a light-emitting probe for the detection of hydroxyl groups in organic solvents. It can be synthesized by reacting methyl acetate with an excess of methylamine and then oxidizing the product with potassium dichromate. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique has been used to increase the sensitivity of LTA4ME and detect hydroxyl groups in samples containing low concentrations of the target compound. The biological properties of LTA4ME are similar to those of leukotriene B4, which is a naturally occurring lipid mediator that has immunomodulatory effects and receptor binding.
Leukotriene A4 methyl ester binds to basophils and stimulates them to release histamine, which causes inflammation at the site of injury. LTA4ME also inhibits energy metabolism by inhibiting mitochondrial electron transport
