Meso-Lactide is a polymerized mesophase that has been shown to be crystallizable. It consists of a mixture of monomers and impurities. The nucleophilic attack on the meso-lactide monomer by the stannous octoate initiates the ring-opening polymerization process, which leads to a change in morphology from a lamellar phase to a crystalline phase. The growth kinetics of meso-lactide have been determined at constant temperature in order to better understand the crystallization process. Microscopy studies have also been conducted in order to observe the changes in morphology during different stages of crystallization.
