Description:

Levopimaric acid is a natural product that has been found in plants and fungi. It is an ester of pimaric acid and hydrochloric acid, with a hydroxyl group on the phenolic ring. This compound has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential as well as increase the intracellular levels of calcium ions. Levopimaric acid also exhibits anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and preventing the release of arachidonic acid from cell membranes. This compound can be synthesized through a two-step process that involves asymmetric synthesis, followed by kinetic resolution.
