b-Lapachone is a naturally occurring compound that has been shown to be cytotoxic in vitro. It has significant cytotoxicity against HL-60 cells and has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as cyclin d2, which regulates cell cycle progression, and topoisomerase II, which maintains genomic stability. b-Lapachone also has pro-apoptotic properties, which means it induces programmed cell death (PCD) by activating caspases. This apoptosis can lead to neurodegenerative disorders or brain function changes. Furthermore, b-lapachone has been shown to stimulate mitochondrial functions and polymer compositions, which may have implications for drug delivery systems.
