Lignoceroyl ethanolamide is a fatty acid amide that is synthesized in plant cells. It is a member of the lipocalin family and its intracellularly located. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in vitro and can be used as a food additive. Lignoceroyl ethanolamide may be produced by genetically engineering plants such as soybeans, corn, or canola to produce these compounds. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in cell culture and may be able to act as an acceptor for terpenes such as limonene.
