Luteolin is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It has been found to inhibit the growth of miapaca-2 cells, a type of squamous carcinoma, in vitro. Luteolin also inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokine IL-10 and induces apoptosis by binding to DNA associated with the apoptotic pathway. This compound has been shown to be effective against other types of cancer cells as well. Luteolin is a flavonoid with an unusual basic structure that binds to dinucleotide phosphate and inhibits DNA synthesis. Luteolin also displays anti-inflammatory activity in vivo.
