Linalool is a terpene with a pleasant odor that is used as an additive in soap, detergents, and lotions. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of fungi in vitro. Linalool has been found to have antimicrobial properties against Gram-positive bacteria such as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. It also has antioxidative properties and can reduce lipid peroxidation by scavenging reactive oxygen species. Linalool also has the ability to inhibit fatty acid biosynthesis through chemical interactions with fatty acid synthase.
Linalool is also known to have antifungal activity in vitro and can be used as an additive in soaps, detergents, and lotions. Linalool inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting their fatty acid synthase enzyme which is required for cell membrane synthesis.
