Z-ligustilide is a natural product that inhibits the P-glycoprotein transporter. It has been shown to inhibit the signal pathways induced by toll-like receptor (TLR) and BCL-2 protein in nuclear DNA, which may lead to cell death without caspase activation. Z-ligustilide also has an anti-inflammatory effect on injury caused by oxidative stress, which is mediated by the matrix effect and polymerase chain reaction. Z-ligustilide can be used as a chemopreventive agent against oxidative injury for patients with chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, or cancer. In addition, Z ligustilide can also inhibit the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and increase the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines from cells at sites of inflammation.
