L(-)-2-Octanol is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of primary alcohols. It is a liquid with a boiling point of 176 degrees Celsius. L(-)-2-Octanol has been shown to be an excellent substrate for the production of organic solvents and methyl ketones by reaction with ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, and acetaldehyde. L(-)-2-Octanol can also be utilised in asymmetric synthesis reactions due to its ability to react with both hydroxy groups.
