Lithium oxide is a compound that has a thermal expansion coefficient of about 9.2x10^-6 K-1 at 20 °C. The optimum concentration for lithium oxide is between 1 and 2% (by weight) in the hydrate form, which corresponds to a water content of about 8%. Lithium oxide can be found in nature as an oxide or as a mineral called lepidocrocite. It can also be prepared by heating phosphorus pentoxide with water vapor, producing lithium hydroxide and phosphorus pentoxide. Lithium oxide has been shown to inhibit enzyme activities such as phosphofructokinase, glycolysis, and pyruvate kinase. In addition, it has been shown to have high electrochemical impedance and transport properties. Lithium oxide has been used in lasers for ablation due to its high melting point and light emission properties.
