L-(+)-Lysine dihydrochloride is a salt of l-lysine and hydrochloric acid. It is used in biological sample preparation to deproteinize solutions, such as blood or urine, by removing proteins that are not desired in the final solution. L-(+)-Lysine dihydrochloride is also used as a reagent in the study of l-lysine uptake. The uptake of l-lysine by cells is inhibited by an enzyme called cyclase that converts it into cyclo-l-arginine monophosphate (cAMP). L-(+)-Lysine dihydrochloride inhibits this enzyme, thereby allowing for the study of the effects of l-lysine on cell growth and function.
