Lobelin sulphate is a potent antioxidant found in the human lung and brain tissue. Lobeline sulphate was used to investigate the carcinogenic potential of lobeline, an alkaloid found in tobacco. Lobelin sulphate has been shown to have a low potency in vitro and in vivo, with no evidence of carcinogenicity. Lobelin sulphate has a protective effect on the cardiovascular system by lowering blood pressure and reducing platelet aggregation. This compound also stimulates locomotor activity and increases the production of nitric oxide. Lobelin sulphate is soluble in water but insoluble in organic solvents, which makes it difficult to study its properties using bioassays or electrochemical methods.
