Lathyrol inhibits the activity of an efflux pump that pumps out antibiotics and other compounds from bacterial cells. The chemical composition of lathyrol includes diterpenes and phorbol, which are aromatic hydrocarbons found in plants such as Euphorbiae erythraea. In addition, lathyrol contains fatty acids such as oleic acid and linoleic acid.
