Levistilide A is an enzyme inhibitor that inhibits detoxification enzymes. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in cell nuclei, and has been used as a fluorescent probe for the detection of c-jun phosphorylation. Levistilide A also has an effect on the angiotensin system, which may be due to its ability to increase the matrix effect by binding to cell surface receptors. This compound also inhibits the formation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α and IL-6. There are two analytical methods for determining levistilide A content in bovine plasma: LC-MS/MS and HPLC with fluorescence detection.
