Methylene aminoacetonitrile is an experimental solubility data. It has a thermodynamic temperature of -77.1°C and a solubility in water of 5.4 g/L at 25°C. Methylene aminoacetonitrile inhibits the growth of viruses and can be used to treat tissue culture cells infected with viruses, such as herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). Methylene aminoacetonitrile binds to chondroitin sulfate, which is found on the surface of many cell types and may be involved in the regulation of ion channels. The amide group reacts with sodium carbonate to form methylene diamide, which is soluble in water. This compound was originally discovered as a type species for chloride by English chemist Edward Frankland in 1849.
