Description:2-Methylbenzylcyanide is a hydrobromide of 2-methylbenzyl cyanide. It has antitumor effects and can be used to treat cancer cells. It reacts with a molecule to form a fluorophore, which can be detected by mass spectrometry. The filamentous fungus, Neurospora crassa, was used to synthesize the compound in the reaction vessel. A potential antitumor activity was observed in both G1 and G2 phase cells, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis and inhibit protein synthesis at the ribosome level.
