2-Methyl-3-furoic acid is a natural compound that is found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts. It has been shown to inhibit the reaction rate for the alkylation of butyllithium with ribofuranoside. The anti-inflammatory properties of 2-methyl-3-furoic acid are due to its ability to bind to the drug target site on the receptor for substance P. This inhibition prevents the binding of substance P to its receptor and reduces pain sensation. 2-Methyl-3-furoic acid also has antinociceptive properties that are due to inhibition of dicarbonyl compounds, which are natural products found in plants and animals. These compounds stimulate inflammatory cells to release cytokines that cause pain sensations.
