The chemical analyses of 3-methylcyclopentanone have been found to have a dry weight of 136.19 g/mol, with a molecular formula of C5H7O2. 3-Methylcyclopentanone can be identified by its hydrogen bonding interactions and hydroxyl group (-OH). The photoelectron spectrum shows the presence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond between the -OH group and one of the methyl groups. This intramolecular hydrogen bond is responsible for the high boiling point and low reactivity.
