Description:Methyl 6-methylnicotinate is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have cholinergic properties. It is an oxidation catalyst that can be used in the synthesis of methyl nicotinate, which is a drug for the treatment of influenza virus. Methyl 6-methylnicotinate also has been shown to inhibit the replication of influenza virus in vitro and in vivo. Methyl 6-methylnicotinate inhibits viral growth by binding to the antigenic site on hemagglutinin, preventing it from attaching to host cells. This compound also has been shown to inhibit the release of chloride ions in animal models and inhibits neuromuscular transmission. The molecular modeling studies revealed that methyl 6-methylnicotinate binds with high affinity to the active site of acetylcholinesterase enzyme and is able to form a covalent bond with its serine residue, thereby inhibiting its activity.
