Description:Melanotropin-potentiating factor acetate salt (MPF) is a synthetic growth factor that is active on both autocrine and paracrine pathways. MPF stimulates the proliferation of cells by binding to the melanotropin receptor, leading to increased levels of tyrosine kinase, which are required for cell division. This protein also has an effect on the splicing of messenger RNA in ovary cells, which may be mediated by its opioid activity. MPF has been shown to inhibit cellular differentiation in lung carcinoma cells and increase responsiveness to naloxone.
