Product Information
Name:(S)-(-)-a-Methylbenzyl isocyanate
Synonyms:
- (S)-(-)-1-Phenylethyl isocyanate
Brand:Biosynth
Description:(S)-(-)-a-Methylbenzyl isocyanate (MBIC) is an organic solvent that is used to derivatize carbinols, alcohols, and phenols in urine samples. It is also used to determine the enantiomer of labetalol. MBIC can be extracted from urine samples using sodium carbonate as the extractant and analyzed by gas chromatography. In this method, a chiral stationary phase with a polar functional group allows for the separation of enantiomers by providing a different retention time for each enantiomer. The human body can metabolize MBIC into 2-methyl-1-butanol and 2-methyl-2-butenal, which are excreted in urine. The presence of these metabolites indicates exposure to MBIC.
