Description:3-Methylcyclohex-4-ene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid is a cyclic dicarboxylic acid that is a monomer in the production of polyvinyl chloride plastics. It can be produced by the esterification of 3-methylcyclohexanol and oxalic acid, or through the cyclopentadiene process. 3-Methylcyclohex-4-ene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid is also used as an intermediate in the manufacture of maleic anhydride and other chemicals. Its most common application is to produce polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics. The main sources of 3-methylcyclohexane are from pyrolysis and vapor phase reactions. The residue from these processes contains a high concentration of this chemical.
