Description:1-(4-Methylphenyl)butane-1,3-dione is a pyrimidine derivative that is not active against bacteria. It is used as a tetrazolo and has been shown to be systemically active in mice. 1-(4-Methylphenyl)butane-1,3-dione has been shown to inhibit the production of DNA and RNA by inhibiting the activity of both bacterial DNA gyrase and protein synthesis. This drug degrades into water and carbon dioxide, which may provide an explanation for its lack of antibacterial properties.
