6-Methoxy-1-benzofuran-3(2H)-one is a polymerization inhibitor that binds to tubulin and inhibits the polymerization of tubulin. This compound has shown high potency against cancer cells in vitro, including A549 cells, MCF7 cells, and MDA-MB231 cells. 6-Methoxy-1-benzofuran-3(2H)-one also has growth inhibitory activity on cancer cell lines at concentrations of 100 μmol/L or less. This active form is also an aliphatic compound. It can be synthesized from tetrahydrofuran (THF) using various methods such as Noyori coupling or aldol condensation. 6-Methoxy-1-benzofuran-3(2H)-one has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by binding to the microtubule network and inhibiting the polymerization of tubulin.
