Description:2-Methylindan-1-one is a chiral ligand that reacts with an aryl chloride to form a carbon-carbon bond. It can be protonated by an alkali metal or aminated by an alkyl halide to form the corresponding carbonyl compound. 2-Methylindan-1-one has been shown to bind to the odorant receptor of insects, which may account for its nature as an insect pheromone.
