This molecule also has the ability to bind to cationic polymers and inhibit polymerization reactions by interfering with the formation of hydrogen bonds between monomers. The chlorine atom in this molecule can be replaced by a hydrogen atom for use as an antimicrobial agent. 2-Methoxy benzyl chloride binds to nitrogen atoms on amides and other nitrogen containing compounds, which may account for its antiinflammatory effects.
