Methyl 4-nitrophenoxyacetate (MPAA) is a potent antibacterial agent that inhibits the bacterial enzyme Gyrase. MPAA has been shown to be clinically effective against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. The molecule has also demonstrated potent inhibition of topoisomerases I and II, surfactant activity, and antimicrobial resistance. This drug has been optimized for use against gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
