3-Methylimidazolidine-2,4-dione is a catalysed molecule that can be formed by the reaction of carboxylic acid molecules with amide groups. It is a functional group that participates in many reactions, such as esterification and transesterification. 3-Methylimidazolidine-2,4-dione is used as an additive to increase the rigidity of plastics. This compound has been found in endophytic fungus and has been shown to have photoelectron spectroscopy properties. Molecular modeling studies show that protonation occurs at the nitrogen atom.
