Methyl 5-bromo-2-iodobenzoate (MIB) is a thiourea that inhibits the enzyme activity of thioredoxin reductase. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, as well as induce apoptosis. MIB has also been shown to have a potent antiproliferative effect on various cancer cell lines and other natural compounds. MIB is an efficient anticancer agent with a high quantum efficiency, which may be due to its ability to scavenge free radicals. MIB can also be used to increase the yields of other natural compounds.
