3'-Methoxydaidzein is a metabolite of the soybean isoflavone pueraria lobata. It has been found to have a variety of biological activities such as estrogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antiproliferative effects. 3'-Methoxydaidzein has been shown to be an agonist for estrogen receptors in animal experiments. The chemical structure of 3'-methoxydaidzein has been elucidated by analysis with chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CI-MS). A biochanin derivative was isolated from the seeds of Tephrosia purpurea, which is closely related to pueraria lobata. This compound also binds to estrogen receptors, but with lower affinity than 3'-methoxydaidzein.
