Description:
2-Methyl-3-butenenitrile is an organic solvent that is used in the preparation of isomerized products. It is also a reaction product that can be obtained from the industrial process of adiponitrile, which is a precursor to nylon 6. 2-Methyl-3-butenenitrile can be used as a sample preparation agent for kinetic and structural studies. It reacts with phosphite to form 2-methylpropyl phosphite and 3,3'-dimethoxypropyl phosphite, which are useful cleavage products that can be used to identify the presence of nitrogen atoms in an unknown compound. This compound has been shown to cause radiation damage when exposed to UV light, making it an efficient method for determining the structure of unknown compounds.
