Methyl 2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-3-pyridinecarboxylate is a photophysical compound that undergoes an intramolecular hydrogen transfer reaction. It is an oxidation product of the drug aurora-b, which inhibits the enzyme histone H3 lysine 4 demethylase (H3K4DM). This compound has been shown to have prophylactic effects on acute kidney injury in rats and mice. Methyl 2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-3-pyridinecarboxylate is also used as a biochemical substrate in transfer reactions with n-hexane.
