Methyl isonicotinate is a non-polar solvent that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandins in hepg2 cells, which are cells derived from human erythrocytes. Methyl isonicotinate also inhibits the formation of hydrogen bonds and increases the proton concentration in cells by preventing the conversion of pyrazole rings into formamides. This effect may be beneficial for chronic prostatitis, where inflammation is caused by an imbalance in proton concentration. Methyl isonicotinate has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in rats with inflammatory bowel disease, as it prevents colonic ulceration and reduces the production of inflammatory mediators by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) activity.
