Product Information
- 2-Methyl-Pyridin-4-Ol
- 2-methylpyridin-4(1H)-one
- 2-Methyl-4-hydroxypyridine
2-Methylpyridin-4-ol is a crystalline compound that has been isolated from the saprophytic fungus Sanguinolentus. It is a natural product and can be synthesized by reacting 4-hydroxypyridine with an acid lactone. 2-Methylpyridin-4-ol has shown activity against Cladosporium cucumerinum, Basidiomycete, and Germination of Cladosporium cucumerinum. The fungus produces this metabolite as a defense mechanism to protect itself from other microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi. 2-Methylpyridin-4-ol inhibits germination of Cladosporium cucumerinum by inhibiting the production of extracellular polysaccharides, which are used for cell wall construction. This compound also inhibits basidiomycete growth by binding to the cell membrane and inhibiting protein synthesis.
