6-Methylnicotinaldehyde is a diagnostic agent that is used in the detection of radionuclides, in particular uranium. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of viral replication and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. 6-Methylnicotinaldehyde binds to and inhibits the growth of cells without any cytotoxicity. This drug also has affinity for certain types of receptors that are present on the surface of mammalian cells and may be useful as a therapeutic agent for treating diseases such as immunodeficiency.
