Methyl 2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)acetate is a synthetic alkylating agent that is used as an antibacterial and a pesticide. It can be synthesized from chloroacetone and methyl chloride. Methyl 2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)acetate has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter faecalis, and Aerogenes molt-4. Methyl 2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)acetate also inhibits cancer cells in mice by inhibiting DNA synthesis. This drug has been tested as a potential treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children.
