Description:4-(Methylsulfonyl)-2-nitrobenzoic acid is an activated fatty acid that reacts with phosphotungstic acid to form a brown precipitate. This reaction is used in the analysis of organic compounds and can be used as a simple and rapid analytical method for wastewater treatment. 4-(Methylsulfonyl)-2-nitrobenzoic acid also reacts with nucleophiles such as hydrochloric acid, producing nitro groups that are oxidized by the addition of an oxidation catalyst.
