• Description: D-Methyl lactate is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that is synthesized by the ring-opening of l-glutamic acid methyl esters with methyl glycosides. It has been shown to have a greater effect on gram-positive bacteria than gram-negative bacteria. This drug also has stereoselective activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, which may be related to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of dl-amino acids. D-Methyl lactate has also been shown to increase bacterial cell growth at low concentrations and inhibit bacterial growth at high concentrations. This may be due to its ability to induce dehydration in cells through the cleavage of fatty acids.
