Product Information
- 6-Hydroxy-2-Naphthoic Acid Methyl Ester
- Methyl 6-Hydroxynaphthalene-2-Carboxylate
Methyl 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoate is a compound that is related to naphthalene. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro, by binding to DNA and interfering with cellular processes such as transcription and replication. Methyl 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoate has also been shown to have potential use as an anti-cancer drug because of its ability to inhibit the growth of uropathogenic Escherichia coli in mice. This compound is a mesomorph and can be used in photophysical studies. Methyl 6-hydoxy-2-naphthoate can react with acid conjugates or lectins when it is in the neutral form, but does not react with either when it is in the form of a salt. X-ray diffraction data from this compound shows that it has a molecular shape that resembles that of a square pyramid.
