- 2-Ketobutyric acid methyl ester~Methyl methylpyruvate~Methyl 2-oxobutyrate~Methylpyruvic acid methyl ester~2-Oxobutyric acid methyl ester
Methyl 2-Oxobutanoate is a reactive chemical that has been used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It reacts with a chloride to form methyl chloroacetate, which can be converted to benzoic acid using the Grignard reaction. Methyl 2-Oxobutanoate is also used as a model system for hydrocarbon cracking reactions. The experiments have shown that it has an average diameter of 5.2 nm and heats up at 340 degrees Celsius, giving off heat transfer coefficients of 0.0024 watts per meter squared per degree Celsius.
Methyl 2-Oxobutanoate is prepared by reacting ethylmagnesium (EtMg) with butanal, which forms ethylmagnesium chloride and butanol:
chem>C3H6 + EtMg ->C3H7O2 + EtMgCl/chem>
chem>C3H6 + H2 ->C3H8
