Product Information
Name:Merrifield resin
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Merrifield resin is a polymeric solid that is insoluble in water and organic solvents. It is used for the synthesis of peptides, proteins, oligonucleotides, and other organic molecules with high chemical purity. Merrifield resin has a high capacity to chelate metal ions such as trifluoroacetic acid and hydrogen fluoride, which are often used in preparative organic chemistry reactions. The preparation of this resin was first described by Robert Bruce Merrifield in 1963. In the reaction mechanism, the disulfide bond reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to form an adduct called pluronic p123. This product can be cleaved using hydrogen fluoride to produce the desired product.
The polymerization of merrifield resin is catalyzed by light emission from a mercury lamp or UV light. The polymerization process results in the formation of an insoluble polymer.
Merrifield resin has been shown to be effective
