- Thiocyanic acid methyl ester
Methyl thiocyanate is a trifluoroacetic acid that is used as a pharmaceutical preparation. It is the methyl ester of thiocyanic acid, which has the chemical formula CHSCN. Methyl thiocyanate functions as an anaesthetic and analgesic and has been shown to be effective in treating pain due to arthritis, fibromyalgia, and cancer. Methyl thiocyanate is metabolized by hydrolysis to release methyl thiocyanate acid, which then diffuses into the blood. This compound can also be transformed back into its original form by reacting with hydrogen chloride gas or acetic anhydride. Methyl thiocyanate was first synthesized in 1903 by German chemist Wilhelm Schlenk and his assistant H. Gattermann. The molecular formula for this compound is CHSCN, where C represents carbon atoms, H represents hydrogen atoms, O represents oxygen atoms, and N represents nitrogen atoms
