Description:

4-Methylpiperidine is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to inhibit the activity of thrombin and other serine proteases. It also stabilizes complexes with atropine sulfate, an anticholinergic drug. 4-Methylpiperidine is stable in aqueous solution and has been used as a standard reference material for nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The molecular modeling software program CHARMM was used to create the structure of 4-methylpiperidine. This molecule contains one hydroxyl group, two amines, and one hydrogen bond.
