Marmin is a coumarin derivative that inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. It has been shown to have a significant cytotoxicity in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, which is a cell type of white adipose tissue that produces and stores fat. Marmin also inhibits the activity of acetate extract, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of pyruvic acid into acetyl coenzyme A (acetyl-CoA), an important step in cellular respiration. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to a decrease in the production of ATP and can cause cell death. Marmin also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful for treating basophilic leukemia.
