Methoxytributyltin is a metathesis reagent that is used in organic synthesis. Methoxytributyltin reacts with carbon disulphide to form a hydroxyl group, which can then be used to create a variety of compounds. The reaction mechanism of methoxytributyltin is similar to the palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction. Methoxytributyltin has been shown to act as an adrenergic receptor agonist and has been shown to have inflammatory properties in vitro. Methoxytributyltin may also be able to cross-link proteins, leading to apoptosis.
