Description:Methyl 2-benzyloxybenzoate is a benzoate derivative that has shown anticancer activity. It has been found to be cytotoxic to HL-60 cells at concentrations of 1.0 and 5.0 mM, and inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential in these cells. Methyl 2-benzyloxybenzoate also induces cell apoptosis by increasing the spontaneous release of cytochrome c from mitochondria into the cytosol. This compound also has anti-cancer properties and can inhibit tumor growth in vivo, suggesting that it may be a novel anticancer drug candidate.
