This effect may be due to its ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation. Further research into the metabolic profiles of 2-methyl butyric acid has shown that it inhibits the activity of enzymes involved in fatty acid synthesis and metabolism, such as tiglic acid synthase and ketoacyl CoA reductase. It also shows some potential as a solid catalyst for kinetic studies.
