2-Methoxy-5-methylphenol (2MM5MP) is an experimental method that has been inactivated with hydrogen chloride and mandelonitrile. It is a solid phase microextraction of benzyl groups that have been synthesized from the prenyl group. 2MM5MP has shown to be effective against butyric acid in vitro and is being studied for its potential use as a prebiotic agent. The chemical structures of 2MM5MP are furfural, chloride, and a prenyl group. 2MM5MP has been used in analytical chemistry to pretreat faecal samples for the detection of butyric acid by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS).
