Methyl trans-p-coumarate 4-glucoside is a reactive molecule that can be found in dietary sources such as coreopsis. It has been observed using magnetic resonance spectroscopy to have a chemical shift of 3.81ppm, corresponding to the methylene protons on the glucose moiety. This compound also has a high level of reactivity and may cause damage to cells by reacting with fatty acids, proteins, and other molecules in the cell membrane. Methyl trans-p-coumarate 4-glucoside is thought to be an intermediate in the biosynthesis of secoisolariciresinol diglucoside and pinoresinol diglucoside, which are phytochemicals found in plants like dry weight oat and green tea. These compounds have been shown to have anti-cancer effects when they bind to tumor cells and interfere with Ca2+ concentration within the cell.
